Mr. Fortunato's farm is located in the Maranon Valley in northern Peru, an isolated, sparsely populated area that is not even on any map. Pure National cacao was thought to have disappeared from the face of the earth in 1930 due to two epidemics, but DNA analysis of the fourth cacao tree on his farm in the United States revealed that it was 99.9% Pure National.

DNA analysis has shown that Fortunato No. 4 cocoa is 99.9% pure national. Its evolution between 1920 and today has shaped its new personality in the soil and climate of the Maranon Valley.
